The original painting by Gerrit Van Honthorst, ‘The Concert’, is thought to have been painted around 1632. Currently residing in The National Gallery of Art, Washington DC, Honthorst embraced the thematic ideas of Caravaggio and pushed them forward with dramatic gestures and stark contrasts of light and dark, creating the exotic colouration and often religious scenes he became famous for. Then came along Mr Mitty, who shook this piece up with some DJ decks and brought the old school image into the 21st Century.
