Derek Gores, The Rhode Island School of Design grad, lives and works in Melbourne, Florida. His use of recycled magazines, labels, data, and assorted found analog and digital materials create artistic and unique artworks. Gores’ contrasting interests lie within the living beauty of the figure, the angular and abstract design aesthetics of fashion, and a fearless sense of play.
The buzzing stillness of each of his works is heavily influenced by his heroes Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Franz Kline, Rube Goldberg, Max Ernst, as well as images that create a story within a single picture.
Gores was honoured to have his work selected for the Manifest Hope DC exhibit coinciding with the Presidential Inauguration in 2009, and in 2010 he was named “One of the 40 important artists of the New Contemporary Movement”, while in an exhibition in London.
